About Chris
Chris grew up on the Torridge Estuary in North Devon, one of the last strongholds of traditional sailing coasters. Chris's artist and signwriter father painted planes, trains and boats amongst other things. Although having lived in an area with a long legacy of traditional boatbuilding and sailing vessels, it was a borrowed Mirror Dinghy that started a love of sailing. Time spent sailing aboard a friends 19ft Gaff Cutter gave Chris a real appreciation for classic wooden boats.
This love of sailing and traditional boats led Chris away from Devon to Falmouth Marine school. After this, Chris was taken on as apprentice with Butler and Co Traditional Wooden Boats at their Penpol yard. Chris continued to work with Butler and Co until starting his own business.
Chris is currently based on the North Coast of Cornwall in the village of Kehelland but can undertake work nationwide.
Chris likes to sail as much as possible when not working, particularly traditional boats, He is a skipper, chairman and a trustee of St.Ives Jumbo Association, who sail engineless luggers from St.Ives.
